Eruption Cafe Review

Sunday 11 December 2016

The slogan at Eruption Café is: we do FOOD, we do COFFEE, we do AWESOME, and I agree with that.

On my adventure from Hamilton to Napier to watch the Judgement Day CrossFit competition my flat mate Mike and I stopped in at Eruption Café in Taupo. I’d heard about the café through Motivate Me NZ, as Makaia Carr has posted her recent dining stop there on Facebook.

Located by Torpedo 7, the café sits in the Suncourt plaza with lots of indoor and outdoor seating available. What appealed to me most about this café was its diverse menu. It has a fantastic range of options starting with carb unloaded, through to semi loaded, mini loaded and fully loaded. The carb unloaded and semi loaded menu has been done in consultation with Lisa Cameron Fat Loss Consultancy -

I opted for the Brekkie Salad from the Carb unloaded Menu; tomato and avo tossed with fresh salad leaves and topped with a smoked salmon and a poached egg. This cost $18.90.

Mike (who was carb loading for the competition) delved in two breakfasts. He has a Vegie stack: Poached egg, wilted spinach and grilled tomato on a Portobello mushroom. This was $12.90. He also had the Bicher Muesli from the Semi Loaded menu. This was Bircher Muesli with lite greek yoghurt, protein poweder and served with kiwifruit, berries, banana and topped with coconut. Priced at $13.50.

We each had a smoothie. I got the Ironman Smoothie – Banana, kiwifruit, spinach, spirulina, ice and water, priced at $7.90 and Mike had the Berry Smoothie with – berries, frozen yoghurt and apple juice, priced at $7.50. He added protein powder to his for an extra $2.30.

I was a little disappointed with the amount of food I got for $18.90, Mike’s seemed to get more for his money. I highly recommend it if you’re passing by. The service was great and the enironment was extremely relaxed.

The menu will suit the whole family and there is plenty of cabinet food available too. View it online here
